Yeah but I'm an old gamer, stuck in my ways. Lets look at it this way, What hardware will I need to run a game without issues. I'm running Skyrim on its Ultra High settings right now with no problems. I'm running Windows 7. Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2310 CPU @ 2.91GHZ RAM: 8GB Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series I can try to get more specifics on it this weekend, if you want. I do know that this isn't the most top of the line machine, but it's definitely getting the job done. Another thing to consider is that if the older games are what interests you the most, not only can you get most of them, but the indie games that come out are often on par with them. Some are even among the best games I've ever played.

Any computer store here where the computer comes with 8GB's RAM (or anywhere over 4GB's) Starts from €800 onwards. Then there is the graphics cards that add to the cost because it's a "gamer rig dude bro, way better than a console" - Random shop assistant who also said "It has 8 gigawads of REM and like 500GB's of hard drives. That's nearly a Terrorbyte which is like huuuuuuge!"
There are also the independent stores that only sell you computers that they say are "new" but they are refurbished with their crappy resource stealing software and open office, which they charge you for, cause it's apparently an older version of Microsoft office and they are doing us a favour by giving it to us at "half price". They are also designed to fail after a while so you go back to the shop for "Repairs" for repeat custom. The amount of computers I have looked at from 2 different shops and sorted out is quite a lot and common.
People around here are idiots when it comes to computers. They think that because the iPad is 400 then obviously a computer that's bigger than it or a desktop is going to be more expensive and accept that.
Self building isn't an option, mostly cause I'm a clutz when it comes to installing and removing parts. I manage to break Hard Drives when unplugging them. "Now it will cost some more to made sure that the hard drive can't be read and destroyed." "No need, Liam removed them." "Oh... *Throws tower on dump.*"
Getting a person to do the build will cost the parts plus 13% and labour costs that is €125 for the first hour and €25 onwards.
PC's aren't cheap here.

Well, what I did was buy each of the parts through various sales online. Places like Newegg can make parts incredibly cheap. www.newegg.com/Computer-Hardware/StoreYou can buy the individual parts one at a time when you have the money and they're on sale. Get them cheap enough and it would offset the cost of labor to assemble them. I was lucky and my friend assembled mine for me, which took roughly an hour. Now, where I did get a bit luckier is that another friend had spare copies of Windows 7. The price of that varies by country, but it did save me about $100.

I think I'll wait till someone I know decides to get rid of his old desktop and take it off him, should be decent enough to run Skyrim or Fallout games.

That is an option. And if it's not, you might be able to replace the parts that aren't good enough.

New local computer shop horror story. They will install the trial version of Microsoft Office for €20.
I hate people.
Also random fact, I scalded my foot this morning. Random thought, feet be nice and warm on this cold morning.

Even the kits are cheaper than buying a ready made computer. I like console gaming better but thats just me and my ways.

I do, but said guy is, for lack of a better word, flakey and prone to taking a year to do anything or forgetful, but really that is more to do with his job taking up so much of his time.
I prefer console gaming myself cause it's what I've always done. But as a gamer I owe it to myself to attempt other styles and platforms. I've played every console out there but never tried PC.

I started out gaming at arcades and bars and switched to PC gaming later on. I loved games like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Half life in the 90's but I move to consoles and never looked back.Traditionally it has been a little more expensive to keep up with PC game requirements than it is presently especially if you can build them yourself.

Doom, I played that on PC and Command and Conquer. I played the PC. I don't need to go any further, fair use has being reached reached and I can judge the platform based on my interactions with said games.
It was alright.

As I understand it, it's become less expensive to keep up a gaming PC due to consoles now being so popular. They're the main focus of the majority of developers who will not make anything that exceeds the capabilities of the current generation's hardware, so upgrades aren't needed too often.

I'd say thats about right C'Monkey. Of course this Gen console is pretty decent I think you would be hard pressed to find a retail computer that could wipe the floor in gaming with a PS3 for $399. The PC games are much cheaper so in the long run you will save $. I get the best deal I can for things but I dont care if I spend more $ for something I like better and I still am a console guy.

Pretty sure it's going to end badly since it's been going badly during every test.
