I will tell you why people (specifically Canadians) hate Nickelback.

To be considered Canadian content, it must fulfill at least two of these requirements. Nickelback is considered Canadian content, and radio stations need to broadcast a minimum of Canadian content. Therefore, you get to hear a lot of the "popular" (as defined by the radio stations) songs played on the radio. For years and years the air waves were saturated with Nickelback because they were theoretically a "good" Canadian band.

Now, when you play songs to death like the radio stations do, you get sick of hearing those songs. Really sick of hearing those songs. Nickelback was a group that was played to death and was also not seen as very "good" by many Canadians. They are made fun of frequently here because they are thought to be bad, and when it comes up that the US likes them we say they can have Nickelback because we don't want them (I think Justin Beiber is in a similar situation).

Basically, Nickelback is not thought to be very good at the best of times and was played to death on the radio, so no one wants anything to do with them. Maybe they aren't actually that bad, but they're now hated because of radio stations and are not the only group to fall victim to radio stations really over-doing it when songs come out.
