I guess I'm just a Colorado boy ( from NYC ) at heart but I watch all these shows. Hell On Wheels is an old time western taking place right after the Civil War and the story revolves around the building of the transcontinental railroad. It starts off as a revenge story where a Confederate officer tracks down the Union soldiers who killed his wife working for the Union Pacific. He gets hired in short order to be a foreman and the story really takes off from there. Well acted, and written it is very authentic and has some incredibly authentic characters. If you like Deadwood type shows this is one for you to watch past seasons available on Netflix and the new season on AMC started lst week but reruns are available now. Speaking of Deadwood, Timothy Olyphant who played the Marshall stars in his own show Justified where he plays a "maverick" modern day Federal Marshall who gets transferred to his old hometown of Harlan Kentucky after he shoots a drug dealer in self defense. He soon is neck deep in meth labs, pot plantations, and moonshiner all run by his old friends and family. Probably one of the best acted and written shows on regular cable, with many Emmy nominations and 3 best actor wins in its 3 previous seasons. Three past seasons available free on Amazon Prime and a new upcoming winter season FX. If you only get "regular" cable tv ,these are some of the best shows around and hold their own with any "premium" cable show.

I wanted to thank you for the recommendation of Hell on Wheels, RRwatch. We began our journey yesterday and we are one episode away from the ending of the first season. It really didn't take long to form attachments to the characters. I also liked how it told many sides of that particular time period. Through the eyes of the Confederate, the Union, Ex Slaves, The Cheyenne, The greedy and even the prostitutes. And I was exited to see Wes Studi ( Chief Many Horses ) who played Magua, the Huron party leader, in The Last Of The Mohicans. It's a great show and I'm anxious to continue through the series.

Thats awesome Cel I glad you guys are liking it. I think the top notch acting really keeps the story going. The character are so well depicted. Its not one of those instant gratification shows, but once you get into it I think you will enjoy it til the present season.

I believe it took Six a little longer to get into it, but once he did, he couldn't stop watching.
It greatly parallels with the show Deadwood. Even with the talk of The Pinkertons. But this show definitely carries weight of it's own.
I love the Irish brothers. They are among my favorites.
