I think this has been going on since May, so there isn't one article on it. Here's a recent one: Bolivia, Venezuela and Nicaragua offer Snowden asylumI've been wondering what people's thoughts on the situation are. There's a bunch of issues surrounding Snowden from citizens being monitored to US relations with other countries, to name just a couple. As for me, I hope people aren't surprised that they're being monitored: if it wasn't explicitly known it was pretty much a given that there was monitoring. I suppose it's just a question of exactly how much is monitored and can be seen. I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

The news media pushing the "Chinese spy" angle is humorous.
Most seem to be kind of aware of it, and even if they don't, they don't really care or realize why it's a bad thing. The response is usually something like, "It's to protect our freedoms from the terrorists."/"Help us fight the war on terror."/"I have nothing to hide, why should I care? They can go ahead."
And that makes me really really sad.

I agree with you ninja , most people I talk to about it don't care at all or don't understand why the should not want the government to be able to monitor everything we do ( granted like many have stated its not that big of a suprise its been going on .) I also think that the giant man hunt and pressure to make countries to give up Snowden is ridiculous. The extent me Obama is going threw to force people to give him up is laughable and makes him look like a child throwing a temper tantrum, not to mention how it makes him look to the rest of the world and the repercussions it will have with other nations .

Really what he did was to further open the eyes of the public, only reason the US Government is worried is to what extent of their supposed secrets did he or will he expose and to who he will expose them to. I see no malintent in what he did and is doing as long as it's info the people need to know. Especially w/ the monitoring which I'm highly against, hell who says it wont be implemented into the XbOne. With his coming forward with this info it has set the US agencies back a little since now they have to change their game plan on this subject. But going so far as to block airspace on a false statement "Permit had expired" is BS, also it doesn't take 13hrs to know that someone isn't onboard a plane it was a scare tactic to try and deter Bolivia from accepting his asylum. Right now I think Obama is scared he might be in trouble w/ some of the info Snowden could have and probably does have. I hope he's able to find asylum somewhere since I don't see him as a traitor. Especially compared to I see Obama and his cabinet members as more traitors for attempting to snuff out the US constitution by banning certain firearms which could in turn do more to take away all.

As I see it Snowden did break the law, it is not up to individuals (who swore an oath to keep classified information confidential ) to decide which classified documents they leak is ok and it is not up to law officials to decide who to find and prosecute either. I also don't believe it is up to individuals to decide they will leak certain US classified documents without repercussion. We are a nation of laws and laws can be changed. The current monitoring has been going on for years and the present administration is following the letter of the law. Previously FISA courts were not used and whole conversations were monitored which is against the law, however the GOP has better PR and people didn't care because they were afraid or Republican (see video). Snowden seems to have gotten his job with an intent to expose any secrets he could,I suspect he has mental problems or dated a girl he wanted to impress because he had been known to declare famed leaker Bradley Manning a traitor. If you are an American and don't like data mining call your congressman and let it be known you want something done about it. its more effective than posting cartoons on FB.

According to the New York Times, Snowden got offered Asylum by Venezuela. In my opinion, Snowden is a traitor to this country because he worked on these documents for a number of years and he only NOW released that the government was doing? I'm more than a little suspect of his motives in doing this, I'm convinced that he got passed over for a promotion or something else happened that made him mad and he decided to go and tell the public. Also, he ran to Moscow after telling the public about these secrets, whats to stop him from telling the Russians, Venezuelans, or whoever a bunch of other secrets that would put us all in very serious danger? Absolutely nothing. I have to other major problems with this whole ordeal: first of all, most of the people whining about this probably have facebooks and I guarantee you a number of them put their ENTIRE lives on there, if you do that and then go whine and complain about right to privacy you really need to be lectured about the internet. My other problem is that, seeing as how watch decided to post a Fox News video I'll use them in this example, if this came out during a Republican Administration Fox News wouldn't be complaining about it, they would be praising it like crazy, hell a lot of these people who are complaining about it now were 100% for it during the Bush Administration, the amount of party politics that goes on is stupid, I had no problem with the government going through my phone records to see who I called a lot during the Bush Administration and I feel the exact same way in this administration. The government has been able to do this since phone's were invented in the 19th Century, to get the actual conversations and names in the phone logs they need to get a subpoena.
