My PS3 is not reading discs, right in the middle of TLOU dammit. Im going to try blowing a bit of compressed air in there in case its dust otherwise I will probably have to replace the laser deck. There are some videos on youtube on how to do it. Anyone here ever do it ?

Eat has before I believe. I've had a laser replaced but I brought it to a technician to make sure it was done right cause I tend to break small parts.

I'm having the same problem, it's actually been doing it for a while. I keep having to take the disc out and put it back in again, get's a little annoying after the 50th attempt. It does get marginally better when I hoover the ps3 out 8D. This is my 6th ps3 so i'm not going to repair it, save my money for a ps4

Well I ordered a replacement part and I watched a how to Youtube video. I only ordered the lens fixture so I have to take apart the deck that holds it in. I should have watched the video first as it is a pain to take apart, the lens and deck is about 25 bucks more which I would have paid.I should get the part tomorrow evening. Worst comes to worst I brick the whole thing. I hope not but I will probably buy a refurb or cheaper ps3 if I do cause I got a butt load of games. I been stocking up so I can get the PS4 a little after it comes out. I have 80 plus games on the HDD from PSN I will have to redownload if I can too !!!

Nice. Remember if it does end up bricked you can probably get a technician to fix it.

Finished taking apart the PS3, removed the filthy fan from its seat and brushed out the dust and q-tipped it with alcohol. The lens arrived a few hours back so I had to disassemble the whole laser deck to put it in. The lens rides on round bars that act as tracks which enable it to move back and forth so it can read the discs. I was pretty sure it was the bluray laser causing me problems but it was possible the motor arm could have been bad. I lucked out and it seems it was the laser itself, I lubed the track/bars very lightly with dilectric lube so the lens could travel easier and reassembled the PS3 leaving the top off while I tested it. I put in a game disc I hardly ever used and put in in the PS3, it recognized the game right away but the screen turned black and it did not seem to load. I ejected the disc and turned the PS3 off and unplugged it for a minute hoping that it would reset and recognize where the laser was. Bingo ! The bluray acted like it should and read and loaded the game disc. I reassembled the PS3 top since Im pretty sure I got it fixed now. Me and my son have been playing Quantum Conundrum for a bit and the PS3 sure is a lot quieter with a nice clean fan. If anyone else has this problem I would suggest trying to clean the PS3 including the laser lens with alcohol qtip first, If that doesnt work then a repacement might be in order. I was lucky I guessed right the laser was the problem but it could have just been dirty. The hardest part about the repair was not having a t8 security torx and using a small flat blade to remove the torx screws, also a few of the ribbon cables are small and one situated under the laser lens is hard to put together. In any event watch some You tube vids to help you familiarize yourself with the console and see if it is something you would like to attempt. Total cost of the repair was $40 bucks for the lens overnight shipped. I think Sony would have been about $150 pus shipping and at least a 2 week wait. If anybody ever need help if they try this repair I would be more than happy to lend whatever help I could.

Wadey, If you are a PSN plus member have your saves backed up on the cloud it should be pretty easy. If you arent then you will have to try the PS3 data transfer utility. It really is not robust and is a bit complicated. If you want to give it a try you will need a ethernet cable to transfer data between the 2 PS3's and 2 different kinds of video hookup to the tv. If you use HDMI with one , you will have to use the video connectors on the other. Then you have to use the data transfer utility. If you want to try and arent comfortable I would help you out if you liked.

You can just download the stuff you bought, but you will lose the level you are unless you have saves stored in the cloud or you use the data transfer utility. You should be able to download every DLC you bought for BL2 from the BL2 game

It depends on how you saved it. Sony makes it a pain to save data from games. My advice give it a try BEFORE you erase anything. Worst case scenario join PSN plus for a month.. you can backup all the saves of any game you dont want to lose data on and then when you switch over to to your new PS3 it is all in the cloud. It is a pretty cheap way to save everything.

Put your save files onto a flash disc and copy them over onto the new ps3. I did it worked fine. Only takes a few mins. You can re-download any item multiple times and they can be active on 5 different Playstations.

You can re-download any item multiple times and they can be active on 5 different Playstations. You can only activate an account on 2 PS3 systems depending on if the games were purchased before 11/17/11 or 17/11/11 if you prefer. Maximum Number of Systems There is a maximum number of systems that can be activated with one account which differs depending on the content. For purchased/downloaded content before November 17, 2011 the number of systems for activation is: For Game Content - Five (5) PS3 and/or PSP systems For Video Content - One (1) PS3 and up to Three (3) PSP systems As of November 18, 2011, number of systems for activation is: For Game Content - Two (2) PS3 and/or PSP systems For Video Content - One (1) PS3 and up to Three (3) PSP systems
