Would any of you be terribly upset if we nuked the "bad" board? Post counts might take a bit of a hit.

Well have you heard anything back from ProBoards?
And.. Nah. I mean I certainly hate to see our Adult boards go, if indeed we have to. But.. if it's something that can't be helped, then it can't be helped.
I guess, like in most cases, you have to weigh the options.
Do we want to see a better, smooth operating forum, that we can do much more on.. But have no 18+?
Or
Do we want a crap-ass forum that has no helpful features and so old that I'm certain Jesus use to browse it.. But have 18+ boards.
Well then I would rather sacrifice the boards and a few post count. That's my opinion.

What did this mysterious warning say ? Did it point out the 18 + or was it regular forum chat that were "offensive". TBH I don't want to live in a censored Disneyland where paranoia abounds. Seriously Proboards should be specific about any problems. Could you post the message ? That might help. |

The warning message was:
Since we were wondering what they thought was "adult material", we emailed them with why the board existed in the first place. We said we removed the board from view and were waiting on a more clear definition. From the response, their definition of "adult material" is "mature content". It also doesn't matter how old the users are, the boards must remain PG13.
That is their response on the matter. They don't give anything more.
We know you guys are a great bunch and we know we could all try to do without the boards if we are to stay. However, their lack of clear guidelines and the fact that they don't seem to want to try clearing them up has brought up some concerns. Even if we really crack down on any content they deem offensive, what do they find offensive? To use Leo's example, will a YouTube video posted in the Music section be deemed inappropriate because of a bad word or image?
ProBoards is not being clear about how they define inappropriate content, and also do not specifically state what's wrong. The problem they have (whatever it is) is probably in the chat thread which is at nearly 200 posts, so either the staff have to go through every post and remove what we think might be the offending content or to delete it all and make sure we get all of anything they're upset about.
If they're not willing to clear up this rule, what other rules are they going to bring out for what seems to be "because they feel like it"? Bad rules are one thing, but they don't want to clear them up, which is a problem.
I'm really quite annoyed by this. The whole point of having people come test this place out was that so if we ran into any issues we'd know about them before we asked people to move and lock things down. A number of us have put a huge amount of time and effort into this place to get features we want and stuff working properly, and now it seems threatened because some people can be bothered to put the time into clearing up rules.
If we've learned anything from this, if we want to do this the way WE want them done we're going to have to get away from "free" hosts so we can have our own rules.

Until we figure something else out we've opened that section of our forums at our previous location. Feel free to use them. The rest of the forum there is still View Only, and only those in the 18 plus group there will see those boards. Pm me if you need to be added there.
Otherwise, its kind of the same. We have always asked that the main public boards remain pg 13. That was the reason we created 18 plus in the first place. The only difference now is that someone else asked us to do what we always did before. We will mod these boards as we did the others. Word filters will be set. Most of what they ask is in our own forum rules anyhow.
If posts counts were effected, we can add the numbers back in.

I screencapped the Member's list for post counts and have just deleted the "naughty" thread. I'll fix whichever post counts went down now.
EDIT: It appears that the post counts were unchanged after deletion, which means I don't need to do anything.
We should be in the clear now though so long as we stick to their "guidelines" whatever they are.

I'd suspect they were already not counted by that time. I do find the very unclear "guidelines" disturbing too, My idea of acceptable decorum may be far different than someone else. Do you think they talking about the merits of Pam Anderson's acting in the Proboards Pam Anderson Forum ? I did like the idea of being able to get out of the "kiddie pool" once in a while and delve into adult topics. |

It might be that once a post is made it's made, and deleting things don't affect post counts. Idk.
While I liked having a place where you could talk about things that are apparently inappropriate, my biggest concern now is that they don't seem to know what their own rules are.

Ok so maybe another blonde moment, buuuuuuut....is there a way of uploading our own images, like the old site, without using a host site or adding a link. I see in the help pages there is an option for adding an "attachment" button. We can haz?  Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks for reply in advance.  |

The ability to add attachments to posts has been turned on. Files can be no larger than 1MB and you can have a maximum of three attachments per post.
There is a cap on how much space we have for attachments, but if they're small images it will be a while before we have to worry about hitting it.

When using the attachment option, it only shows as a thumbnail. A wee bit too small to view.

Could you add an attachment to your next post in this thread, as well as just a link to what you're attaching (if possible)?
Also, I will be messing with Gaming Headquarters for a bit. Nothing will be deleted and will be reversible.

I've made another category for Gaming Headquarters and have moved all threads to what I think (hopefully) would be their homes. The board descriptions should be enough.
Due to the inability of placing games into a board dedicated to similar genres, trying out manufacturer-based sorting again. However, unlike back at 1.0 if the game is on a platform from more than one manufacturer it must go into the general gaming board. For example: Halo 3 can only go in the Microsoft board, but since Halo 2 is available on both Xbox 360 and PC it must go into the general gaming board.
The General Gaming board will have a stickied thread with an alphabetized list of games in that board to help users find the game they're looking for. Staff will try to keep this thread up to date.
The old GH category has just been hidden, so if this new one isn't working out the old one can be unhidden and all the threads moved back to where they were.
