it protects you from fire blocks (any blocks that do damage to you if you touch them) not from lava. you'll need the obsidian skin potion for that.

Yup, and you don't need obsidian potions to effectively mine hellstone or navigate the Underworld. Just make good use of your grapple, build bridges everywhere you go if you need to, and mine in such a way that the lava doesn't get to touch you (say, by keeping something in between you and it). About ready for Hardmode in my world. Mined out a good tunnel beneath my base and lined it with Brick. Built a couple of Brick towers to my east and west. West one has a rope ladder to the top, and I tried my hand at a spiral staircase for the one to the right, which I think turned out okay. Need to build a real storage area, and some proper personal quarters and I'll be ready to move on. Give it a nice blue paint job when I get the money. Measured my vertical jump with the Bunch of Balloons yesterday while in game with a friend. Put 137 feet between the two of us.  Wings can do much better than that, of course, but what I lack in height I think I make up for in mobility. I'll test that when I actually get some wings. |

also be aware that not all wings are created equal. your jump is inadequate compared to any of the wings. but then there is the difference between low tier wings (angel/demon) and high tier wings (ghost/fire/ice). which creates an even more substantial difference. Also do you take fall damage? that seems like a rather major issue. one that wings deals with.
Also I have been where you are at. I want that accessory to be awesome. its new and interesting, but eventually you'll come back around to wings. the bunch of baloons in a prehardmode accessory. all wings are hardmode accessories. that its a pretty thivk line dividing the 2.

I have a Horseshoe currently, but even if I didn't I could avoid fall damage with my rocket boots. Wings doing that inherently, not to mention the added slowfall on command, do make them likely to be superior just from taking only one slot and doing those three things. The only area I see the Bunch being better at is in fast sideways mobility. Then again, I have been using the carpet as well, so that could be skewing my perception somewhat. even when i mine the hellstone i get hurt from the lava that comes from that Like I said, keep something between you and it. You don't have to be touching or even next to a block to mine it. There's a good 3-5 block range depending on which pick you're using, I think. While you're mining it should look like: YOU/ASH/HELLSTONE. You just leave the ash right next to the hellstone be and mine right by it. That way no lava can get out. Of course, sometimes you'll want to drain the lava to get to more hellstone. Just dig it a path to an unused empty space (or create one a bit away), and then drain it while you stay far away. Just be careful and plan your path ahead and you'll be fine. |

that also means saving rocketboots to break your fall instead of jump height (though you could use grapple to break fall, but that has its own risks involved).
Since I got wings I stopped using my lightning boots (upgraded version of spectre boots, which are in turn an upgraded version of rocket boots) because all they were providing me was faster running speed. and flying speed on my wings is pretty good.

I think it's because the game has been patched again since Ry updated it. It's on version 1.2.3 or something now. The individual players all have the latest update though Steam, but not the server.

So i used the mechanically worm and a few seconds later i got another notice saying the destroyer has woken. I ended up killing one of them but they killed a ton of my npcs  . It was a pretty intense fight lol I ended up using the frost armor , shotgun and crystal rounds |

I wish the frost giant would drop some damn boots. I have killed him about 12 times and he hasn't dropped boots even though its a 33% chance. I've got tons of chest and helm. Sold a bunch for gold to buy wires for my teleporters

Killed the Eater of Worlds around 30 times, Queen Bee about 5, and Skeletron 4. None have yet dropped their trophies. :/ Putting a real crimp in my trophy hall plans. 10% chance my eye.  Did get a Nectar off the Queen, so now I have a little baby hornet pet following me around. Doesn't actually do anything though. @jaded, you mean you had to fight 2 at once? That's not supposed to happen, I don't think.  |

Yeah i was prepared for one, but not two lol. I wish i got a screen shot of them, it was pretty awesome and horrifying at the same time.
I think i have an extra pair of boots if you need them nobody .

CobaltMonkey ive fought the eye 2 or 3 times and have its trophy fought the queen 3 times have her trophy (got it on 1st kill) killed wall of flesh twice and have its trophy. most times i've tried ot kill a boss is 3 times. and yes you can fight 2 of the same bossif you summon one on a night it randomly spawns. though I dont know if it a good or bad thing that it summoned the same one and not a different hard mode boss. jadedoblivion I'd kinda like to do it myself. besides I already have turtle armor which is the best melee based armor. (its nice to kill enemies just by touching them. (as cobalt has witnessed.

I figured as much , but i was just throwing the offer out there. I need to get 2 more turtle shells before i can get the full set of turtle armor.
I still haven't had any solar eclipses or pirate invasions yet .

I have 2 or 3 extra shells if you want them.
i've had some solar eclipses. they are very hard, but that was when i was using lower hard mode tier armor. pirate invasion is supposedly the hardest. you can trigger it by using the treasure map which is dropped by ocean biome enemies.

Well, after three more kills Eater finally dropped his. So, neener neener. Also, I have a few pieces (helm and two pants) of Ancient Shadow Armor that just dropped off of the normal eater enemies, so that's cool. |
