Played a little last night still in my personal world. If pyramids are rare, then I was quite lucky because I had another on it my other desert. This one's treasure was a Flying Carpet. It's an accessory that allows you to hover for some time after you jump. You can fly left or right while it's active, but can't move up. You can fall a bit and reactivate it, but you still have the same usage time limit. I want to say you have 3-4 seconds of hovering. Coupled with the Sandstorm in a Bottle, it's made travel through my world a breeze. Well, it was a bit dangerous as if you went to high and ran out of hover you'd be toast, but then I got an Umbrella. This is a quickslot use item so you have to hold it to work, but when you have it held you slowfall, avoiding any falling damage and adding to the length of time you can stay airborne. All together, it's an awesome combination. I also found a couple pairs of Flippers early on. These let me raid the oceans even since I could swim all the way up to get air. The left ocean had four water chest in it with Tridents and Breathing Reeds, nothing amazing. The right one though... Same sort of stuff in its two chests, but what caught my attention was the submerged house. Went inside and cleared it of several statues, a painting, and a Platinum...Chandelier. Despite having only tin leggings and a gold sword for equipment, I did manage to kill two sharks during my excursion. Does anyone else find it odd that Water Bolt works under water? Killing sharks with water is just kind of funny. I actually haven't built anything yet. I hollowed out a small area in my icy starting spot, trapped the guide in it and stuck a door on it. That's my "house" so far. I also have done very little digging. Everything aside from the short tunneling into the pyramids has been a surface level find. Can't wait to see what's down below.

Damn you got lucky. I've gotten very few new accessories. I'm using cloud in a bottle. I think the only new ones I got were immune to poison (a drop from a hard mode enemy) and something that gives me a temp boost to speed after i take damage
edit: also I have no pyramids, no living trees, and my oceans had a total of 1 chest, which just had a breathing reed in it.

Indeed I have been. And it continues, it would seem. Covered up in chests. They've expanded the uses for gems, and I've been finding them by the truckload. Really like how they're not just hidden away in the middle of nowhere anymore, but also found clinging to walls along tunnels too. I mean, they sort of were before too, but now they're a lot more visible. One thing you can use them for is to make a grappling hook. I was curious enough that I had to look it up, and it turns out you can make them out of any gem (don't even require chains, though normal ones still do) and they will be longer than the normal one by an amount depending on which gem it's made out of. The longest is Diamond. Well, I didn't quite find enough for that, but I did find a hook soon after and made a normal grappler. More importantly, I did have enough diamonds for something else. Diamond Robe. You could make robes before, but now they actually do something, and how much again depends on the gem type. Diamond Robes got me +80 Max Mana and a mana cost reduction of 15%. *Very* nice. Trade-off is that it only gives you 3 defense. So, a real caster item, basically.
Fought and defeated the boss of the Crimson. You were right, it was pretty fun. Also, I don't remember Water Bolt being this good. I thought it just hit and enemy and did damage, or bounced when it hit a wall a few times. It still bounces, but it also seems to persist until it's done bouncing, passing though enemies and damaging them repeatedly similar to Vilethorn. Found a big area to fight him in and just filled it with Water Bolts bouncing all over. Shredded him. Still had to do some fancy footwork though.
Thinking I'll plan a trip to the jungle next.

yea they reworked a few spells, and buffed magic in general. most spells got a cost reduction and damage increase. I havent actually used any gems for anything especially since they removed them from jungle armor. but on top of what you said you can also use them to make staffs. and I hear the staffs are quite good.

Yeah, I noticed them, but haven't made one yet. Didn't know if they cast spells or were a melee weapon. I'll have to make one and see.
Speaking of spells, I forgot that I also found one from the equivalent of Shadow Orbs. The Crimson Rod. Rains on enemies and causes fair damage and knockback. Seems like you can only have one going at a time though. Thinking it'll be good against worm types.

it shoots projectiles.
crimson rod is pretty good. not as a main source of damage bu as just a bit of extra damage. it hits for litl damage bu real fast which means it doesnt become much less effective later on when its only doing 1 damage since it does 1 damage so fast. its not just good vs worms, but hordes, or stationary enemies, or even just doing chip damage while staying safe.

So i got to hard mode and my world does not have any hollow , i checked both sides of the world and nothing . Is this a glitch or does hollow not always spawn when beating the wall of flesh ?
I am also getting my butt kicked by giant turtles .

well seeing as i have traversed both ends of my world and there is no hollow the only other thing i can think is that maybe its is at such a step angle its not appearing on the surface .

mine barely showed up on the surface. I dont think that it effects the ice biome visually that much. at 1st i couldnt find it on the surface, but i did notice I was fighting unicorn and fairies in the ice biome, without the usual bright colors in the back ground, and that in the underground ice biome there were crystals but it still looked very icy to me.

holy crap orichalcum armor set bonus is amazing. its a replacement for mythril armor. and its set bonus is a flower petal flies across the screen and hits an enemy you just hit. its been hitting most hard mode enemies for 25-35 damage. it also goes through everything, so if there is a group of enemies it can hit all of them as well. or if i boss has multiple parts, it will annihilate him. (I killed a wyvern using demon scythe spell and my armor while floating with the gravity potion in search of floating islands.) i can only imagine how great it will be with crystal stormor the harp or other sorts of fast attack speed weapons.
Ive mostly been using it witht he crimson rod atm for massive damage. i destroyed the enemies during a blood moon because of it.
also apparently during the blood moon the twins can spawn by them selves

I found a couple of Sapphires... Wow, images get big here. I kinda miss that resizing thing we had going on. Oh, well. Finished testing the waters and started a fresh character in a Large world. Kept all the stuff I found in the test world though. Not giving up my Flying/Sandstorm combo. Hermes Boots have also gotten a considerable buff to the speed they provide, which is very nice. Especially alongside the change where blocks of 1 height difference don't stop you. So much easier to keep the speed going. Wish a Goblin Army would invade so I could get the Tinkerer already. Got trophy drops from Eye and Brain hanging on my walls now. Definitely going to have to make a grand hall to show those off in. Probably combine it with my standard hall of armor. Trying to decide where to head next, Dungeon or Jungle.

damn thats a lot. (you can hide pictures in spoiler tags)
I found my own sandstorm, and it is significantly better then the cloud in a bottle, since you can hold jump to get some serious height. I wss using sandstorm in a bottle, cloud in a balloon, spectre boots, and the magic carpet for some ridiculous air time. I jumped from the beach to the deep end of the ocean. also aside from vanity items you have everything in the pyramids.
I got a trophy from queen bee. and got sketron to drop a grapple hook. its very slightly shorter then the ivy hook, and 2 instead of 3. but it looks like skeleton hands.

That isn't even the only deposit of gems like that I found on that dig. The other one was only about half as big, but contained sapphires, rubies, and amethysts. I didn't think to check the other gems, but I know I had a stack of 90 sapphires on returning to the surface.
Awesome, isn't it? I know I'll eventually ditch the carpet for Wings, but unless that quad-jump accessory you mentioned is better than the Sandstorm, I really can't see it leaving my equip slots.
Cool little item. Guess that means you're supposed to go to the dungeon before the jungle then. I assume Skeletron's got a trophy too, so I might farm him for that first.

well there are certainly more uses for them. i've been making green stained glass. (hence why i needed all that sand)
as for that quad jump accessory. you turn sandstorm in a bottle into sandstorm in a balloon. then combine that with blizzard in a balloon, and cloud in a balloon, to make the quadruple jump accessory which has the 1st double jump the sandstorm, 2nd blizzard and 3rd cloud.
as for wings. even I dont have those yet

coop really helps. before 30 minutes ago i had never done it solo without gear acquired after beating him.
setting up dart traps rigged to timers can really help as well. mostly i build a platform of several layers. fill it with campfires, and a small spot for honey to keep your regen high. put some walls on some of the sides to help block the lasers. then you basically just dodge him while attacking his sides.
thats in addition to the typical boss preparation stuff, like potions and etc.
